The most basic and most important question one should understand as an investor is, what does investing really mean? Now that sounds like a very very very simple question, but how many people actually understand this? Mr. Varun Malhotra explains exactly what it means to make an "Investment".

Here, when he says you buy a company believing in its future cash flows, obviously the cash is not coming in your pocket but since you're the shareholder (owner), indirectly you are benefiting. As the company generates more cash, it is likely that either it declares a dividend or the market value of the company increases to reflect its earnings.
